April Re-Read Recap

Re-Read Challenge

In March I re-read 7 books, bringing my total to 21. I’m almost halfway to my goal of 50 and it’s only been 3 months!

15. Sinner by Maggie Stiefvater – My favorite of this quartet and also the best audiobook of the four.

16. 99 Days by Katie Cotugno – I instantly remembered most of what happened when I started my re-read – luckily this book is good enough to be worth it!

17. Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell – Audio re-read. I don’t think my opinion changed.

18. Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz – Audio re-read. Still amazing perfection.

19. Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater – Audio Re-read. Took me a minute to warm back up to this narrator, but it was smooth sailing from there.

20. Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett – Audio Re-read. My first Neil Gaiman. The audio is astounding, though Supernatural has forever changed my interpretation of all things Crowley.

21. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling – Audio Re-read. THIS IS HAPPENING.

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books if You’re Obsessed with 80’s Movies

toptentuesday2

This week, The Broke and the Bookish is asking for the Top Ten Books if you Like (x) – and I chose 80’s movies.

These movies have made up such a huge part of my life. When I was younger, they couldn’t be considered the classics they are today because they were new! I remember renting Ghost Dad like 8 times in a row at Blockbuster, my sister making me hide my eyes when Adam and Barbara fill their wedding clothes during the seance in Beetlejuice, my tiny bedroom TV in high school that had a built in VCR so I had a pretty sick VHS collection, thanks to Target sales. I still completely love/want to be Winona Ryder.

If you’re more into Weird Science or Earth Girls Are Easy, you might like:

  • Ready Player One: takes place in the future/a videogame world, but the entire world is obsessed with the 80’s JUST LIKE YOU
  • 8 Bit X-Mas: another videogame book, but this one takes place in the 80’s and is all about Nintendo

If Valley Girl is more your speed, you might be interested in:

  • Eleanor and Park: Try not to make a mix tape (or I guess a playlist) with these songs.
  • Weetzie Bat: Obviously I’m into 80’s punk in books (and out!)
  • Paint it Black: Los Angeles 80s. Not what you might expect if you’ve read White Oleander.

If you’re still completely grossed out by the leech scene in Stand by Me, try:

If you REALLY love Huey Lewis and the News, you definitely need:

  • American Psycho: Watch the movie to see a man attempt to feed a cat to an ATM (but also read the book because we’re here for the books).

Are you still traumatized by Artax drowning in the Swamps of Sadness? Try these feels on for size:

  • Tell the Wolves I’m Home: a different look at the 80s
  • Jellicoe Road: only part of this book takes place in the 80s, but it’s not like I can NOT mention it.
  • The Perks of Being a Wallflower: Truthfully, I don’t love this book but it also calls for a mixtape.

And I haven’t read it yet but just put it on hold at the library because I forgot it was already out:

  • White Lines: New York in the 80s!

I can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with this week!

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books I Wish Could Have Sequels

ttt3wTop Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

This week, The Broke and the Bookish is asking for the Top Ten Books I Wish Could Have Sequels.

  1. Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe – I want to see these two discover more secrets of the universe together!
  2. Jellicoe Road – This is just one of those books I wish was hundreds of pages longer. I don’t even know what I would want the sequel to be about, I just want more time on the Jellicoe Road.
  3. Graffiti Moon – Since this book takes place in one night, a sequel could be about the events that happen in a week. (Actually, I’m torn. I think Graffiti Moon is perfection and a sequel might ruin it but I’m willing to take the risk for this list.)
  4. The Night Circus – More magic!
  5. The Jessica Darling series – I know there are already several books (and a prequel on the way!), but I would read more books. I would read SO MANY more books in this series.
  6. My Life Next Door – I loved every single character and would love a follow up.
  7. Eleanor and Park – These guys as grown ups being awesome and grunge in college/the corporate world.
